Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does MOPS mean?
A:
MOPS is an acronym for "Mothers of Preschoolers".
Q: Do I need to be Christian or a member of Discovery Church?
A:
No. Discovery MOPS is a non-denominational organization. Moms from a variety of faith backgrounds and area churches (and even moms who don't attend a church) belong to our MOPS group. Any mom is welcome!
Q: Why do I need to register?
A:
Registering before the August 31 deadline helps us to know how many moms to expect at the September meeting. We need to purchase supplies, food, drinks, arrange for childcare, and assign seats for each member.
Q: What goes on at a typical meeting?
A:
A buffet-style dinner is served from 6-6:30pm, with announcements, raffles, and general business updates afterwards. A guest speaker usually follows, then a short break, then dessert and coffee. We end our night with a craft and/or small group discussion about our speaker’s or theme topic.
Q: Can I join if have an infant or if I'm still expecting my first child?
A:
MOPS is meant for any mom of a child five years old and under. New or expectant moms are welcome and strongly encouraged to join. It's never too early to make new friends.
Q: What if I don't know anyone? Where will I sit?
A:
The group is broken down into small groups of 5-7 women per table. All members are given assigned seats and you'll sit at your assigned table for the entire year (unless you request a move). This seating arrangement helps the group avoid natural cliques and will help you connect quickly with a few people.
Q: I have a question that is not addressed on this website. Who can I contact?
A:
Feel free to email the leadership team at

or call Jen Scheib at 412.894.7253 if you'd like to speak to the group coordinator.
